The Furuno BR-500 BNWAS (Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System) enhances maritime safety by continuously monitoring the watch officer’s presence. To confirm alertness, the officer must press a button on the timer reset panel or operate designated navigation equipment such as ECDIS or radar at preset intervals. If no action is taken within the specified time, visual and audible alarms activate in the wheelhouse. Should the officer fail to respond, the BR-500 escalates the alarm to cabin panels installed throughout the vessel, notifying backup officers of potential incapacitation and ensuring timely intervention.
