IDENTI-FISH™

This technology enables zero discards in fishing by distinguishing species and discriminating fish size effectively.

What is IDENTI-FISH™?

IDENTI-FISH™ is a technology by Furuno that utilizes advanced echo display and histogram analysis to differentiate between fish species based on their swim bladders.

Logo_Identifish-01

IDENTI-FISH™ is an advanced technology integrated into Furuno's fish finders systems that provides real-time visualizations and data comparisons, enhancing fish identification and optimizing fishing strategies.

Thanks to this revolutionary technology, Furuno sounders now have two essential features that contribute to zero discard and responsible selective fishing: species and fish size discrimination.

at Furuno

"I am proud to say that IDENTI-FISH™ technology is revolutionizing the fishing industry by enabling zero discard and promoting responsible selective fishing. By accurately discriminating species and fish size, it ensures sustainable practices that protect marine ecosystems while supporting the livelihoods of fishermen worldwide."

AI-Avoidance-Route-graphic-1

AI-powered safe route suggestion

The new AI Avoidance Route™ technology utilizes Risk Visualizer™ warnings of a potential collision to quickly suggest a secure path that avoids those hazards.

THE IDENTI-FISH™ TECHNOLOGY FEATURES AN ECHO DISPLAY AND A GRAPHIC HISTOGRAM

FSS-3BB_ID_display

The echo display combines high and low frequency echograms, enabling users to distinguish between fish with swim bladders and those without.

FSS-3BB_ID_color

A red-brown echo indicates a school of fish with swim bladders, like herring, while a light green echo suggests swim-bladderless fish, such as Atlantic mackerel.

This color-coded display helps quickly identify and differentiate fish species and their distribution.

This image demonstrates IDENTI-FISH™'s ability to detect fish without swim bladders. Here, the Atlantic mackerel is represented by a light green echo.

IDENTI-FISH™ histogram graph

The IDENTI-FISH™ histogram graph compares the fish school's data with model data, using numerical values and bar graphs to show species similarity. Default models include Atlantic mackerel and herring, but users can add new species and create custom reference curves. Two echogram areas can be analyzed simultaneously, with reference curves displayed in different colors. For instance, a blue line matching a red reference curve indicates a 98% similarity to herring. This combination of echo display and histogram graph is effective for species identification.

Accurate fish size measurements in easy-to-understand graph form*

Thanks to IDENTI-FISH™, the FSS-3BB fish finder measures the size and distribution of fish in the selected school and displays this information in an easily understandable graph. Additionally, TruEcho CHIRP™ technology enhances measurement accuracy and reliability, allowing for detailed analysis of fish size and school density, which is crucial for targeting specific fish sizes.

*Note that fish length is a reference value based on reflection intensity, and a compatible transducer is necessary.

Line of sight of a Radar

Radar waves propagate along Earth's surface, but due to diffraction effect, these waves propagate in a slightly curved manner. The degree of diffraction is determined by many factors including atmosphere density. In general, the diffraction curve allows the wave to go beyond the line-of-sight by about 6%
