When a vessel moves through the water, acoustic noise is created and is known as a boundary layer. This noise layer can cause errors with acoustic devices. By measuring speed through water (STW) farther away from the keel, the DS-85 penetrates through this noise and boundary layer resulting in a more stable and accurate speed measurement compared to an electromagnetic speed log.
Speed and Distance Measuring Equipment (SDME) is required for SOLAS vessels of 150 GT or more, and the DS85 delivers the pinnacle of stability for these ships, capitalizing on Furuno's decades of expertise to produce reliable speed measurement in the most challenging of conditions.
The DS-85, bright color LCD display is both attractive and easy to read, and includes a fresh analog speed display. Up to three displays can be connected to the system, and power is supplied through the network, making the installation of remotely located displays a breeze.
