Meet Dimitris Papadakos Fishing & Yachting Department
Born and still living in Thessaloniki, Greece, Dimitris Papadakos is a man whose life has always run parallel to the sea. Today, he works directly for Furuno Hellas at the company's Thessaloniki office, focusing on sales and technical support within the Fishing & Yachting Department.
His journey with the brand is remarkable for its continuity: he joined the Furuno Hellas Fishing Team in 2013, became a Furuno Dealer in 2018, running a store in Thessaloniki that served as the sales and support point for Northern Greece, and in 2022 moved in-house to Furuno Hellas itself.
Over all these years, he has been an active Furuno equipment user, building extensive hands-on experience with the products, their operation, and their capabilities.

From Childhood Passion to Professional Choice: The Furuno Path
Dimitris' relationship with the sea and fishing began as far back as he can remember. Fishing was one of his father's hobbies, and from early childhood Dimitris followed the same path, developing a strong and lasting passion for the sea. Like most anglers, he started from the shore, then moved to boats, at first with friends, and from around 2000 onward in an increasingly intensive and systematic way.
As the owner of his own boat, he has dedicated himself to techniques that mainly target large game fish. And when pursuing selective species, he explains, it is natural to turn to specialized equipment, both in fishing technique and in marine electronics. For a regularly used fishing boat, he is convinced that electronics are among the most important tools on board: a good fish finder, a reliable GPS/chartplotter, a radar, in short, a complete, well-integrated system.
His path to Furuno began around twenty years ago, at a time when the internet offered far less information than it does today. While researching equipment for his needs, one name kept surfacing: Furuno. What particularly caught his attention was that Furuno equipment was widely used by professional fishermen and professional fishing vessels, an industry whose demands for reliability, quality, expertise, technology and performance are extraordinarily high.
That professional endorsement became one of the main reasons he was drawn to the company. Combined with his evolution toward specialized techniques such as slow jigging and live-bait fishing, choosing Furuno became, in his own words, "the natural choice."

Furuno On Board: DIMITRIS' Own Setup
Dimitris owns a sport fishing RIB, and his onboard suite is the very combination he recommends to his customers: a Furuno NavNet TZtouchXL 13" multifunction display, two of the most popular transducers, the P66 and the 1,000 W CHIRP TM185M, plus the complete DFF-3D multibeam system with the TM54 transducer and the PG-700 electronic compass.
"For a sport fishing boat like mine, this is an ideal combination," he explains. "It covers a very wide range of fishing needs, from shallow waters of 10–20 meters all the way down to depths of 300–400 meters, supporting different fishing conditions and techniques."
And the system is designed to grow: by adding a Furuno network radar and a NAVpilot autopilot, he believes a sport fishing boat can achieve a truly comprehensive marine electronics package, covering virtually all the essential needs of the fisherman.

NavNet TZtouchXL is Furuno's flagship series of multifunction displays, available in extra-large glass displays from 10 to 24 inches. It incorporates a powerful internal 1 kW TruEcho CHIRPTM fish finder, edge-swipe touch control, and full compatibility with NXT radars, DFF-3D sounder and NAVpilot autopilots.
The DFF-3D is a network multibeam sounder that turns a NavNet display into a 120-degree port-to-starboard view of the water column, showing the depth and direction of fish schools and the seabed condition in real time, with side scanning up to 650 feet. Its PBG function generates custom high-resolution shaded-relief charts of the seafloor.

DIMITRIs' ABSOLUTE FURUNO INVALUABLE TOOLS
Asked to single out one Furuno anecdote, Dimitris declines: "It would be unfair to single out just one case, over all these years, there have been so many different situations and experiences."
Instead, he points to what he considers the brand's most distinctive capabilities. For beginners and experienced anglers alike, he highlights two invaluable tools: BDS (Bottom Discrimination), which identifies four basic types of seabed material, and ACCU-FISHTM, which estimates the size of individual fish, two unique capabilities that, in his view, significantly differentiate Furuno systems.
The information they provide proves extremely valuable both during fishing and when searching for and evaluating new grounds. But his enthusiasm peaks when he returns to the DFF-3D:
"It allows you to scan a very large area around the boat and continuously identify new potential fishing grounds. And one of its most important advantages is the ability to record this information directly on your chart, gradually creating your own personal, unique map, built entirely on your own explorations."
The result, he notes, is not only continuous discovery, but a valuable, growing database of your own fishing grounds. Dimitris has seen many customers use these features and be genuinely surprised by what appears on their screens: "In many cases, the information provided by these systems has helped them significantly improve the way they fish and, more generally, develop their knowledge, skills, and experience as fishermen."
