EMRI Joystick/DP System | Dynamic Positioning Control Systems
AUTOMATIC POSITION KEEPING FOR SAFE AND EFFICIENT MANEUVERING
EMRI JS/DP System provides excellent manoeuvring capabilities with user friendly modes of operation
The Joystick/Dynamic Positioning system builds on many years of experience in designing intuitive and safe navigation equipment together with an extensive database of ship models. Each system is thoroughly factory-tested to ensure high performance and reduce sea-trial time, which can often be completed and approved within a one- to two-day onboard visit. The operator panel features a programmable, high-brightness display with day and night modes, providing clear, relevant information at all times during manoeuvring in both automatic and manual control modes.
FLEXIBLE CONSOLE DESIGN
On Cruise Liners and Giga Yachts with plenty of console space, the EMRI JS/DP-panels can be directly dropped down in the cut-outs on the consoles for easy “plug’n’play”. On Mega Yachts with tighter console design the JS/DP panels can be integrated into the overall foil-design, utilizing a common layout of buttons, texts and lamps. The system thereby appears to be a nicely integrated shipyard design.

PANEL OPTIONS
EMRI´s series of IMJ operator panels are designed to be customizable with different layouts for individual users:
Simple panels: joystick + tiller
Can easily replace old systems to improve human machine interface with minimal change to operating style
Large panel integration
Levers, display, and pushbuttons can be delivered as individual modules for yard-/owner-specific console layouts, mountable from the bottom up for a streamlined console look.
Lever options
Levers from various makers can be used if the electrical interface is approved. Panels can also be designed with el-shaft controlled levers.
Push button options
Special push button designs can be developed to match a uniform bridge design.
Portable option
A watertight portable panel can be hooked onto bulkhead/railing-mounted hooks and used across multiple workstations to reduce panel count, cost, and console space. Delivered with a rugged cable and rugged connectors to improve durability and can be stowed when not in use.
CONTROL MODES
The Joystick/Dynamic Positioning System offers simple and safe control features, designed for low-speed maneuvering and position keeping.
MANEUVER CONTROL
Manual steering with joystick for low-speed maneuvering:
-
Auto Heading: maintains a set heading automatically
-
Wind Correct: compensates for wind impacts while maintaining heading
DP CONTROL
Dynamic positioning using thrusters and rudders to maintain a specified position:
-
Auto Heading: holds a specified heading during DP
-
Wind Heading: aligns vessel against wind to optimize fuel consumption during position keeping
-
Shadow vessel visualization: the operator can preview the planned movement before execution using a “shadow vessel” shown on the DP display, referenced to the actual vessel position
RELAXED MODE
For improved fuel efficiency, Relaxed Mode can be enabled in Maneuver Control or DP Control:
-
In Maneuver Control: minimizes rudder movement for relaxed, fuel-saving heading keeping
-
In DP Control: allows drift within a larger specified radius to reduce power use while holding position
-
Precise vs. Relaxed settings are individually configured for each vessel according to specifications
DP DISPLAY
The Dynamic Positioning display application can be shown on the navigation system supplier’s computer, or a computer delivered by EMRI. VDU pictures are designed to each vessel’s maneuver-devices.

CAPABILITY PLOTS
All EMRI’s DP-systems are preceded by a series of Capability Plots. This is a polar diagram of the ship & DP-system’s ability to resist wind and current. EMRI’s capability plots are computer simulations, examining the delivered control system’s performance against theoretical vessel specifications.
